Family Archives

Have you ever come across a dusty box in Grandma's attic?  Once in a while there is a great discovery of old pictures or family heirlooms tucked away safely in a box, a well kept secret no one has the opportunity to enjoy.  Needless to say, this history is a fascinating journey in learning more about our ancestral path.

Restoration, mounting, framing and hanging these treasures can be a challenge, but well worth the effort.

Here are just a few examples:

Library in 1806

Federal Colonial

This gallery features five generations of family members from both sides of the family.  The man's side of the family is mounted on the left, the woman's on the right.  A picture of them together is centered between them, flanked by photos of their children.

Each picture has a different frame, reflective of the individual subject.

Converted Carriage House

This picture arrangement is more contemporary, picturing not only people, but places as well.

The black frames in various shapes stand out in stark contrast against the pale walls, and pick up on the black furniture accents and slate countertops in the kitchen.

Local Hero!

When you have a super stellar athlete or performer of any kind in the family, it's hard to find a way to display all of the winning hardware and still claim any surface area in the house for a place to put your well earned celebratory drink.

Shallow shelves provide the solution to showcase these trophies and memorabilia without interfering too much with your design plan.

And it shows your All-Star performer that you think they are pretty special too.

This small inner wall in a hallway is the perfect place to tell a short story about ocean racing adventures, beneath a fabulous original monotint by Robert Chace. The portrait light (barely visible) creates the perfect atmosphere for the wet bar on the opposite wall.

This world traveller's favorite place is the North Pole showcased with his own pictures taken up-close and personal.  The jade polar bear sculpture appears to be dancing a jig in anticipation of all of the other photos to be added to this gallery in the making.  Also pictured, a Milling Road table with a wrought iron base and compass rose inlay; Baker, Knapp and Tubb chairs.

Friendly florals...

The antique collection of black and white photographs adds scale and contrast to the crystal decanters and hand-painted bar.  The floral arrangement softens all of the angular shapes.  Light reflecting off of the Nickel tray creates a pattern of interest on the wall

and ceiling.

The warm russet tones of this dried floral arrangement pull out the appliqued detail on the silk drapes.  The narrow vertical shape echoes that of the antique case clock.

When there's no room to add an upholstered piece or fabric window treatment, this small hallway nook is softened by an arrangement of Eucalyptus and feathers.

Oversized floor arrangements heighten the impact!
